Nokia Ovi Store, the official App Store for Nokia smartphone devices, is where Nokia users can download apps the default browser that comes with the phone or using another official app called “Ovi”. You cannot download from the Nokia Ovi Store using third-party browsers such as Opera Mini. Until now.
However, we have found a way for you to download apps from the Nokia Ovi Store using the Opera Mini browser.
We have discovered that the Ovi store has an URL address:
http://store.ovi.com, which is not accessible from the Opera Mini browser, the most popular third-party browser on Symbian and Java-run mobile devices.
All you have to do is visit
http://store.ovi.mobi, instead of
http://store.ovi.com, while browsing on Opera Mini. Type the URL on the Opera Mini’s address bar and hit enter. In other words, just replace
.mobi and it should work the same way it works on the default Nokia browser or Ovi Store app.
With the Nokia Store or Ovi Store, Nokia has attempted to replicate the success of the App Store by Apple. Nokia mobile phone users can easily download many apps and games from the app store, both free and paid. On the other hand, Opera Mini is one of the most popular browsers that Nokia phone users rely on. It is, therefore, sad that Nokia does not indulge, at least officially, third party browsers to access its official app store. It betrays the intention of having created an app store in the first place.
Let me know if you face any issues while trying to download apps or games from the Nokia Ovi Store using third party mobile browsers such as Opera Mini on your Symbian OS or Java-run Nokia mobile devices.
